Today I took the train to the town of Melun, south of Paris to visit yet another Chateau.
There are so many houses in France to see, this one has a great history though.
The owner was the finance minister for Louis the 14eme who built a house bigger than his boss, the King...
Opps, the King had him imprisoned for stealing state funds and confiscated his property.
This house was one of the precursors to Versailles.
This house was one of the precursors to Versailles.
It is privately owned but opened for tours.
It is a bit cheesy; the owner is basically whoring out the house.
He rents golf carts so you can see the gardens fast, kids can rent period costumes... Even brides, yes... Eva Longoria got married here on 7-7-07.
The house needs repair but it and the gardens are gorgeous.
The town is OK, a bit seedy in places, but over all worth a quick (QUICK) stop for a bite to eat in the main square.
