21-Sept 2008 Paris Blog #5
Sunday 21 Sept

This weekend was very nice.
Saturday was busy, seeing some friends, went to this thing called the Techno Parade. It is exactly what it sounds like, an annual parade with floats blasting techno music on the streets. It would have been more fun in my 20s. We also went out to the junk (not flea) market on the eastern side of the city. (Pte de Montreuil), I bought a great new jacket, I would not recommend this one unless you are pretty brave. It is gritty and not really for tourists. While there I tired to work my camera but missed a great shot, there was a circus in town and this huge truck with a circus cage of tigers drove by announcing the circus, it was so olde worlde French.

This morning I woke up, while my apartment does not have the view that my last one did, but it does have a very nice courtyard view with some newer and some older buildings. I took this shot in the morning. The sky was all lit up with an airplane trail.

I went down to the nice flea market on the south side (Pte de Vanves), it is my thing what can I say. On the way there, I was walking, I ran into a parish rummage sale. It was a giant
area yard sale. There were all kinds of household things and clothes. I did buy yet another Bayard Clock. While I swore to Michael I would not buy anymore I could not refuse, it was such a great deal! I managed to get over to the flea market a few blocks after this. Michael would be proud of me; there were 2 chances to buy Le Creuset, used, one for 5 euros that was a steal and the other for 20. I bought neither of them. We do not need any more at home and my stove top here is electric so it would not be great for that.
www.lecreuset.com I did find these 4 little cups in metal enamel. All 4 for 1 euro, how could I pass that up. Don’t be surprised if you come to the house and see them on the table with salt in them.

OK, I ate
a nice lunch in a brasserie near the rummage sale and then headed off to Passy to see the cemetery there. I really enjoy that one; it is smaller than most but in a very nice area. Here is a great shot; you can see how close it is to the Tour Eiffel

I went there to specifically take a shot of a headsto
ne for my friend Krista who is coming here for 1 day this week. She was the curator of the Women Impressionsit Exhibit at the Legion of Honor and Berthe Morisot was one of the painters. She is buried here with her husband Eugene Manet (brother of the painter) is buried here with her:

I also foun
d this great shot of a stained glass window in one of the tombs. For more information on this cemetery:

Since I was in the area I walked out on the Allee des Cygnes (swans) and got a shot of the other lady here. I will not mention what was written on the pedestal, while some of it was correct most of it was misspelled.

I took the train over to St Sulpice to sit in the church. The whole thing is under refurbishment on the outside and boy did it need it. It was nice though to sit inside. For you de Vinci code fans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Sulpice_(Paris)

OK so I walked home and on the way I walked along the Gardens at Luxembourg. It was very crowded and I wanted to get home so I did not go inside, I did notice that the leaves are all beginning to change color now and the wind is colder.

This is also where the original model for the Statue of Liberty is. BTW all parks in the city have free WiFi.

I also stopped at my local boulangerie (bakery) to get some bread for tonight, god damn, how on earth do they make this bread taste so good? No where else on this planet! I also got a great fig tart for a snack later. This tart was 2 euros.

OK, well school tomorrow.
